In a memo to priests and parish administrators dated August 3, the Archdiocese of Seattle announced that Archbishop Paul D. Etienne has requested a special collection at parishes this weekend, August 8 and 9, to benefit the Spokane Complex Fire Support Fund established by Catholic Charities Eastern Washington. Checks can go to your parish with “Eastern Washington Wildfires” in the memo line, and if your parish is not holding a collection you can give directly to Catholic Charities Eastern Washington.
Bishop Thomas Daly of the Diocese of Spokane issued a pastoral message on August 3 calling on the faithful to turn prayer into action for evacuees and those who lost homes.
St. Vincent de Paul Spokane Valley is offering pantry groceries and help with rent and utilities, open to all, at 304 South Adams Road, Spokane Valley. Call 509-879-0927.
The City of Spokane opened a wildfire relief donation portal through its existing H.O.M.E. Starts Here Fund.
New donation drop sites have opened. Spokane Fire Station 16 at 5225 North Assembly is accepting supplies for firefighters. Partners Inland Northwest and Second Harvest Inland Northwest are also active drop and food sites.
As of the most recent county reporting, roughly 65,000 to 67,000 people have evacuated and at least 600 to 700 structures have been destroyed across Spokane and Stevens Counties.
